Fencing is used to protect young trees and sometimes coppice growth from Deer, Rabbits and Hares as well as farm stock. Fencing is an efficient method of protection and generally becomes cost effective on areas in excess of 1 ha.

 

 

Most fences are constructed using specialist high tensile wire mesh which can be re-used. Alternatives include electric fencing and dead hedges which are temporary barriers made to exclude deer, using lop and top from felled trees and coppice
